Families Are Forever

Our family is so happy for Garrett, Natalie and their little family. On Saturday May 31st, they went to the St. George Temple and sealed their family for eternity. For those of us that were in attendence it was a beautiful ceremony.
We are proud of you guys for the effort and strength you have put forth.

Cousins Skyelar and Boston having fun at the picnic lunch that was held after the Temple Sealing.

Disneyland-The Happiest Place on Earth

Sitting on Dumbo Garrett Jr. Annabelle, McKay, and Logan
Our first day at Disneyland was full of fun and excitement. We went on some awesome rides. Finding Nemo submarine, Dumbo, Indiana Jones Adventure, Jungle Cruise, Mad Tea Party, Thunder Mountain, Space Mountain(Garrett Jr. and Jordan went on that twice), Matterhorn, Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, Splash Mountain. And Splash Mountain broke down right after Greg and Mckay went down the 50ft drop. They had to wait for the Disney workers to come and get them off of the ride! Everyone was dripping wet after that ride.
Grandma Marlynn bought the kids an autograph book to have the Disney Characters sign.
We are going to California Adventure and Disneyland tomorrow.

Grandma Mary with 6 of her Great Grandchildren

Before we headed out for Disneyland we had a great Sunday at Grandma Mary's.
Jim, Jean, Bob, Marlynn, Jordan, Christa, Annabelle, Logan, and Garrett Jr. arrived at Mary's for one of Chef Jim's breakfast specials! He didn't let us down again.
Greg, Wendy, McKay, James, and Owen arrived in the afternoon and we had a late lunch.
Everyone had a great time.
Mary seemed excited to have so many little people there. As you can tell from the fun picture.

Shaffer Family Reunion 2007

Every July the Bob Shaffer family goes to Oceanside California. Before they hit the beach Mary (grandma) would have us all (and extended family)at her house for a reunion. It is a great way to see each other.

Bob on his 50th Birthday

Our family still feels the loss of Bob.
Besides being a great husband, father, and grandpa. Bob was an organ donor, and because of his example it has changed the way we feel about the gift of donating. We know that there are people out there that have a better life because the program. The Intermountain Donor Services sends updates on the organs that were used. Here they are:
A man age 65 and a woman age 50 were given the gift of sight. Both were blind prior to receiving Bob's corneas.
His soft tissue has been used for skin grafts for severely burned individuals.
Seven people from the ages of 33-58 from Louisiana, Maryland, South Carolina, and Idaho received his ACF spacers to repair cervical spinal surgery near the neck.
Ten people from the ages of 25-85 from California to Ohio received cancellous chips to heal fractures of the clavicle, wrist, ankle, and hip.
His pulmonary hemi artery was used in Utah to save the life of a six month old baby.
His heart valves helped two people with cardiovascular disease. Some blood vessels used for people with poor circulation and heart problems.
If you are not an organ donor hopefully this has changed your mind to become one.
Sometimes Bob would be asked to speak at BYU in the Business Department.
Because of his association at the University they have placed a book at the BYU Library in his name on behalf of his memory. I will add the name of the book when it is available to me.
In Salt Lake City there is a donor park. Last year Bob's name was put on the wall of remembrance.
We love you Bob. You truly are our hero

Birthday Guys March 4, 2008

In February Marlynn spent a week with Mary. We had a great time talking, watching movies, playing cards with Doc, and doing some spring cleaning. We watched some amazing sunsets from her family room. Mary told stories about the ancestors that was great to hear. Jim came out and we had dinner with Mary and Doc a couple of times.
We celebrated Tom and Jim's birthday. Don't let the placement of the candles confuse you!

Oregon Trip

Last June Mary & Marlynn flew to Oregon. Jean picked us up at the Portland airport and took us to her home in Ridgefield, Washington. (not too far from the Oregon border)
We had a great time on the Oregon coast. Went to Mt Angel where the family was raised. It was the first time Marlynn had been up there. She finally seen Jean and Bob’s beautiful home and awesome property. Also got to meet Mary’s sisters Elly and Marg and her niece Chris.
Hope we can do that trip again.
